The Productive Mental Health Ward – Toolkit forms part of the Foundation level of The Productive Series: Releasing Time to CareTM programme. The Productive Series has been specifically designed to help frontline staff spend more time on patient care, reduce waste and improve efficiency.
This module is a reference manual for all the tools mentioned specifically within The Productive Mental Health Ward programme: each tool is clearly and simply explained. The tools are not designed to be used in a stand alone fashion. They should be used as you implement the other modules in the Productive Ward series.
Tools are the easy and fun bit but these alone will rarely get you results. They will help you get results only as part of a radical change in thinking on your ward. The real challenge will be leading your team towards your defined vision of a safer, more timely and more dignified experience for your patients.
It is very tempting to jump straight for the Toolkit when starting the Productive Ward. You need to remember that tools are just a means to an end. In the same way as having a set of wrenches and spanners does not necessarily mean you can fix a car, just possessing the Productive Ward toolkit is not enough for successful implementation.
Start to use these tools only after you are confident you have prepared to the level the Ward Leader’s Guide module recommends.
It will help you implement the Productive Ward on your ward and overcome specific problems. Have this toolkit to hand when implementing the Productive Ward modules.

This module is targeted specifically at individuals undertaking modules within The Productive Mental Health Ward programme.
This e-learning module is designed to offer underpinning knowledge to support the roll out of the Productive Series. Whilst learning can occur at any time, the Productive Series has been purposefully designed in a modular form to allow teams to implement the programmes in a sequential manner starting with the Foundation modules and progressing to the Process modules. The NHS Institute therefore strongly recommends that implementation follows the recommended path to ensure the best opportunity to realise the benefits which the programme can deliver and ensure they are sustained.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course.
